12 Days Kenya Uganda Birding Safari PDF Print E-mail

Day 1: Nairobi

Upon arrival at the airport, you will be met by Lion Kenya Representative and transferred to the Fairview Hotel for Dinner and Overnight.

Day 2: Lake Naivasha

After breakfast, leave for Lake Naivasha. Take a tour to Crescent Island, one of the few places in the world where one can wander on foot amidst wild animals and you get a chance to see many different birds. Afterwards drive to Lake Nakuru arriving in time for lunch. Afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight at Lake Nakuru Lodge

Day 3: Lake Nakuru

Enjoy an early morning game drive. After breakfast, you will enjoy the beautiful scenery of the lake and another game drive from 10am to 12pm. Besides the flamingos that the lake is famous for, there are approx 400 other species of birds visiting the lake. Also, many species of game can be found in the park including the introduced Rothschild giraffe, black and white rhino, waterbuck, reedbuck, lion, buffalo, leopard, baboon and many species of plains game. Drive back to the lodge for lunch. Evening game drive. Dinner and overnight at Lake Nakuru Lodge.

Day 4: Lake Baringo

After breakfast depart for Lake Baringo one of the two fresh water lakes along the Great Rift Valley. Lake Baringo supports an enormous number of bird species and a large number of hippos. Arrive in Lake Baringo in time for lunch. After lunch take a one-hour bird watching trip by boat to the Samatian island and view hippos too. At the island you can take optional excursions like a visit to the Njemps Village and dancing or to the local snake farm.

Day 5: Lake Baringo

After breakfast. Depart with picnic lunch to Lake Bogoria National Reserve, a shallow soda lake home to a large number of birds and the rare lesser kudu. Scalding hot springs and geysers at the southern end of the lakes spurt and steam their alkaline waters. The bubbling of hot springs, hundreds of singing weaverbirds and a million flamingos feeding in the bluish water present a rare scenic beauty. Enjoy a full day game drive. Dinner and overnight in Lake Baringo Country Club.

Day 6: Nairobi Entebbe

After breakfast, drive to Nairobi and take a flight to Entebbe. On arrival at Entebbe International Airport, our welcoming team will transfer you to the Windsor Lake Victoria Hotel or Golf course Apartment. Dinner and overnight at Windsor Lake Victoria Hotel

Day 7: Entebbe Mabamba

Whole day birding Entebbe and the surrounding area and evening transfer to Kampala for overnight at Hotel Africana or Holiday Express Hotel. Expect sported eagle awl, pied king fisher, Swamp fly catcher, Greater sand plover, Slender billed gull, Caruthers's cisticola, Crowned hornbill, Common tern, Shoebill.

Day 8: Mabamba Lake Mburu National Park

Depart from Masaka to Lake Mburo National park birding along the way arriving later in the afternoon for overnight at Mantana Luxury Tented Camp or Rwanyo Camp. Expect to see; White winged warbler, lesser and greater moorhen, Rufous-napped lark, Red winged Francolin, southern red Bishop, among the many other encounters. Meal plan and accommodation: Bed, Breakfast, Lunch and dinner. Dinner and overnight at Mantana Luxury Tented Camp

Day 9: Lake Mburo National Park

Wake up early in the morning for birding. Depending on the season, look out for the brown chested plover (migrant observed from July to December mainly September) southern ground hornbill, Red faced barbet, Narina Trogon, Black Cuckoo shrike, Lead colored fly catcher. Also you will see mammals notably Zebra, Eland, Topi, Oribis and Cape Buffalos. After lunch boat cruise will bring you close to the African fin foot, African water rail Yellow -throated leaf love, Pied and malachite Kingfisher, spur winged plover, and African Darter. After boat ride, dusk drive to sport the nightjar and other nocturnal birds.

Day 10: Lake Mburo National Park Queen Elizabeth National park

Arise in the morning for birding before transferring to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Lunch will be served in Mbarara town before transferring to Queen Elizabeth, while birding along the way, over night at Mweya safari lodge or Institute of Ecology. Expect to see: - White winged warbler, Martial Eagle, African skimmer, verreaux's eagle owl, Red Faced Barbet, Southern Ground Hornbill, and many others. Dinner and overnight at Mweya safari lodge

Day 11: Queen Elizabeth National park

You will spend the whole day birding in Queen Elizabeth National Park. View birds like Lesser Flamingo (in the month of December and January), Grey Capped Warbler, Saddled-billed Storks, Woolly-necked, African Skimmer and Red Footed Falcon, return to the Mweya Safari Lodge for overnight. Dinner and overnight at Mweya safari lodge

Day 12: Entebbe Nairobi

After breakfast, drive back to Entebbe for your flight back to Nairobi. On arrival in Nairobi, you will be met by our Kenyan driver and transferred to the hotel for a day room before your flight back home.
