7 Days Marangu RouteDay 1 - MoshiArrival at Kilimanjaro airport You will be met upon arrival and transferred to Moshi for the night. Dinner and overnight at Ameg Lodge Day 2:After breakfast, transfer to Marangu gate. On arrival, you will be met by the trekking staff. En route, trek through farmlands, the mountain's surrounding rainforests (often labeled the most beautiful area due to its paradoxical presence alongside the mountain). Emerge from the thick trees and ascend to Mandara Hut. Day 3:From Mandara Hut, continue your ascent through small forests and onto the foundation of the Maundi Crater - completely emerging from the mountain's surrounding rainforests and entering the moorlands. Here, there are opportunities to view the Kibo volcano and its surrounding glaciers. Continue your day's trek onto Horombo Hut where the evening temperatures often dip down into freezing levels. Day 4:After a good nights rest, we continue, past the last giant Lobelias and Proteas, and move on the lunar landscape of the saddle between Kibo and Mawenzi. Kibo Hut (4703m) is reached in 5-6 hours. Picnic lunch on the way. Day 5:The climb for the summit starts in the early morning hours. For about 5 hours we will be climbing the steepest and most demanding part, the route to Gilman's Point, 5685m on the crater rim. Less than 2 hours are then taken to each Uhuru Peak at 5895m, the highest point in Africa. From here we descend going straight down to Horombo Hut, where we'll spend the night.
